SPEAKER_09

SPEAKER_05

You can see the vibes we want. We in the compound get rockin' here with me.

SPEAKER_03

Roll the 300 Biggie Biggie. Heavy, heavy. If it's something better than me, baby, better tell me. I'm not a telepathic, nigga. I'm empathetic. That means I'm feeling everything. But only if you let me. Okay, I'm done with my options. I wanted you to arrive. Took me up that cloud, nah, now my gravity died. I try lifting you up, I try putting it down. I taking accountability, don't even count. Hey, look, not one time, yo can't you say that we ain't tried? Look, look, shorty, and my eyes won't stop leaking, I'm defeated, and it's my fault. Okay, love is a tragedy. If you don't get it right, I carry the scars. I lost a formidable fight. I'm buried in bed. Unless somebody therapy couches turn us out. My flaws put a lid on my life, but literal like you are. Now I'd rather be blind. I probably should call, but now I'm way too timid to try.

SPEAKER_05

Hope you stay there with us. Got some different tunes for y'all this morning. There's a lot to discuss. There's a lot.

SPEAKER_04

Hey, look, I was in your city last night. The music wasn't making me sad. I'm all in my feelings, I mess all we high. Don't need nobody the way for me. But I was hoping you look back. Lately been feeling real stuff. No, you don't give a fuck, but I still feel attached. I need this sexual healin'. I like I'm chillin', I'm still relaxed. I'm tryna keep all our memories out of my head, but it cleans to the crack. Let me know I ain't been feelin' okay. I'm praying one day you just act. No, I don't need no one away from me. No, I don't need no one to stay me. But I can help when you away from me. I feel like I've been going crazy. But my ego, the only thing that's keepin' a space between us. Start with that toxic stuff. It's like you lost the hate between us. Better connect it. Ask to me how you been doin'. You wanna confess you like who I've been screwing? Why you think I'm always an influence? I feel like I'm chosen, you feel like I'm ruined. They can spend money in music. Why it's so hard to believe in the things I'm pursuing. I just been tryna get through it. You makin' it easy, that I like we never been through it. Oh, you must got a new man. Don't give a fuck about who it is, you probably a fan. I should go find your friend. You know I could get in that mix, that ain't part of the plan. Or I even call you again, you never understand. You think that I'm putting when I said I'm just hoping your hands, tryna I like cutting can't start on the hands. When all is in your city, like night. The music was making me stop. If we still in my head, I was stuck in the light. The person behind me was mad. You could like ten minutes away from me. I'ma hit your phone, yeah. I know you tryna stay away from me. I'm tryna leave that in a pot.

SPEAKER_05

Hope we got you ready for the week.

SPEAKER_08

Why would you cause a little bit?

SPEAKER_05

SPEAKER_08

SPEAKER_10

Is that the faces of the future?

SPEAKER_06

Welcome to episode 288 of the Faces of the Future podcast. It's your boy Mills that got rocking in the building with me today. How you doing today? Yeah, we here. You know what I mean? That Kanye at the end. Yeah. Need that. Yeah, got you, got you in that, got you, got you in that mode. Yep, they say you will. Yeah, that's a great record. That's a timeless player. That second record that you that you played on the rotation. Late night. That drone was tough too. Yeah, yeah. That drone was tough too. But it either weights heartbreaks. Yeah, that drone was tough, man. That's my shit. Yeah, yeah. I mean, what you been up to? It was a hot one. It was a hot weekend this week. Hot weekend. Super hot weekend. There was a lot going on, a lot of activity, a lot of motion. Everything's up till 4 a.m. Yeah. City was buzzing. You was outside. I was outside. Yeah. Everybody was outside. I went to the shore. Yeah, how was that? I ain't been to the shore in a minute. I ain't gonna hold it. Yeah, I mean, I mean, we went like relatively like dinner time going into the nighttime. Yeah. You know what I mean? But it was hot, bro. I ain't gonna sit here and cap to you. It was definitely a vibe. But you thought you said you thrive in the summer night times. Yeah, I do, but I'm saying it was hot, though. No, no, no. I'm saying I'm not disagreeing with it. I'm saying like remember we should remember we're shopping up whether it'd be like whether we have like the fall nights or the summer nights. I'm saying it's your season now. No, I'm saying this element now. Absolutely. Yeah. And it's like uh, you know, like I said, I mean, definitely, you know, the women are looking splendid, you know what I'm saying? For sure. They outside. They outside for sure. Treating us well. You said treat you well. Respect. Yeah. Do you notice a lot of different like fashion trends for the summer? Like, I I noticed a lot of people are dressing like um a lot more like simpler fits. Like I seen a lot of like, I seen some like streetwear, but I feel like it's more like a lot of people outside, like even like when I'm in Center City, it's like more like subtle but like nice pieces, as opposed to like flashy, like super like graphic T type drones, that type of thing. Like, different designs on the pants. I st I I still see the graphic tees and stuff like that, but I also do see like, you know, like the loose-collar button-ups and I know what you mean by that, accord. Cause I ain't gonna lie, I I wore like a you know, like a not a button-up, but like uh, you know, a loose-collared shit. Just a nice little summer vibe. That's the word you said, a fleece. Yeah, you got a nice little, nice little um Right? Yeah, you got you you looking right for the summer, like the nice breeze, so the clothes aren't too fitted, so the you know what I'm saying? So you're not gonna be like crazy. Nah, right, absolutely. I mean, granted, my f my my clothes still is uh fitted, but um, I mean like in terms of just like it's breathable. You know the summer, like you're not like layered up, you want to wear like stuff that's comfortable. So you say you're like you're not sweating because the nights be hot, be humid, whatever it may be. No, I agree. That's what I'm saying. I mean, I feel like I'll back to what I was saying about like what I've seen. I feel like up here where we're at, I feel like it's more of like a southern feel now. What you mean? Explain. Like you said, everybody's dressing up. Like not like dressing up to go to a dinner, but dressing up for like an an outdoor outing. Yeah, it's it's you see it and you see people painting, like it's not just like some casual like t-shirts and shorts, like people like you said, they really trying to put pieces together, trying to look a certain way. But I'm saying if people are wearing shorts, they're they're putting an outfit together. Yeah, that's what I mean. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's not just how like ball shorts and stuff like that. Exactly. But I mean I think I don't know if that's like a trend. I think more people are starting to do that more after. Maybe I don't know if it's like the age right now, but I think I don't know. I just seen it just look a little different out in the city than it normally did from last from this year from last year. Yeah, I mean, like, even though summer last year, I felt like I saw way more like streetwear. I don't know. That's just me. I don't know if that's just me, but I felt like it was more streetwear as opposed to like a lot of people. But then you gotta also think about you got a lot of cultures here too, to where it's like that overseas culture is I feel like it's more of that like dressed up aesthetic. You're not wrong. You know what I mean? You're not wrong, and like speaking that like you you was right, bro. The countries is out. The countries is out. Everybody's representing they they they they homeland, bro. Yeah, we stepped outside into this we still we stepped out even like Friday well, what was it, Friday or Thursday when the when the World Cup started? Right um like the bars and stuff, you just see all the different countries flooding to different different jerseys. You seen the Brazil, I think I seen like Ecuador, Jersey, I seen Mexico, Jersey, I seen definitely seen France. And I mean, you were right about that. They're everywhere. It's it's it's it's it's a melting popper show. I'm keeping me, you don't really see too many American American jerseys. Nah, nah, I won't say that. I seen I seen a lot of American stuff. I've seen a lot of Americans. You said I seen American jerseys, bro, especially, especially the night they played, they were they were out there, bro. There was a lot of people, a lot of the bars were packed that that I saw. Um, some of them you have block parties. So I mean, I people are rapping it, and then like even on social media, there's like a lot of um like different, there's like a bunch of like TikTok trends of like foreigners with like Europeans coming into America and seeing like if things are really what they are like in the movies. Like the bull guys, he's like, he's like, gosh, some it was about some boy from London. He was like, gosh, I'm really in a Ford pickup, listening to country music, driving down the road. He started singing some random country songs. He's like, they really do this out here. Like, I had me crying. And then the other boy, he was up in um, he was up in North Jersey, he was from like Scotland or Ireland, and he went to he said, I need to try like a hoagie, whatever it's called, a sandwich. He went to the Delhi and he was dressed up like in his Tony Soprano gear, all that went to the Tony Soprano's house. And he said they really they really do talk like they said a gibba goo. I was like, but they're embracing it. I mean, it's a culture shock. Yeah. I mean, do you think do you think they view because I mean we're used to it, like we're used to uh how New York is, we're used to like how southern people talk or whatever. Like do you think how they experience America is more like intriguing than how we experience like other countries? I think it is the same frequency. You think so? The same level, yeah. I mean, you gotta think about it. We when we hear English people speak, we try to act like that and mimic that, and then we try to when we go over there, it's like okay, this is how they really actually act. Yeah, you're not wrong about that. I mean, it's no different, like I mean, we didn't live in the south all of our life, you know what I'm saying? Going down there, that Southern hospitality and that just that southern twang. Yeah, that's a real motherfucking thing. He said that's a real motherfucking thing. You're not wrong about that, bro. Yeah, and that's and that's what the one guy said. I think he was from uh South Africa, it was a white guy out there. You know, like they have big race wars and they were like the white people getting robbed. It's like the black people are the ones that like kind of like run shit. It's like though they're racist stores, like um the white folks, he's like he's in he's a Tennessee walker from like gas station to gas station. He's like, yo, I can't believe it. There's actually there's actually trucks out here not getting robbed. I'm I'm walking under the bridge at nighttime. It's 12 a.m. and nobody's fucking with me. He said that he said he said in South Africa. We would have been robbed by now. I'm like, I ain't no guy got that crazy like that out there. Bro, yeah, it's definitely you didn't see Israel Asani and the uh uh was it that one guy that fought? Oh nah. Bro, oh you're talking about um when they were going back and forth arguing at the press conference. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I forget his name. I it's just slipping my head, but you know what I'm talking about. He's from South Africa. But yeah, but that race war is is real out there, bro. Yeah, I was just like, but it was kind of funny just seeing that. The reason I asked about um, do you think it hits more for them? Because you know, like how our our entertainment industry is so big, like American movies get pushed over there, like the influence of the faster faster as opposed to like we don't we're just now seeing like foreign like movies. We know about different stuff going over there, but like the culture as a whole, I feel like United States culture gets pushed across the globe like way more intense than any other like any other culture. But I could be wrong. I mean, you're absolutely right. I mean, all cultures know like it was what it seems like the Tony Sopranos, the Godfathers, the Michael Jordan, the Michael Jackson, like who's really like a global icon? I mean, outside, I mean you can say you gotta lay out a message of those people, but I'm saying, like, you're talking about like purely like off of what though. You're true. Like, like I'm trying to think of like any global icons that we know. Umly people I can really think of when you go back, nah, bro, you got like motherfuckers like Harry Potter, bro. True, true. Like, so I actually I already started thinking about that now. Well, I was I was gonna think, I was gonna say the the what's the what's the the um the the Korean pop group BTS or whatever, like them people like I like those type of people, they're like, nah, I mean, but yeah. But not to level Harry Potter. Harry Potter's like a household like every generation's gonna know. It's like the Mickey Mouse with the world knows what Harry Potter, bro. Yeah, they don't they don't record. You know what I'm saying? You see him in a different mood, he's like, Harry? Harry, now what are you doing on this joint? Yeah, it don't make no sense, bro. Yeah. Alright, speaking of that, would you rather be, if you're in the act industry, would you rather be like a be able to be like a Denzel where you can go from role to roll or have like one solidified role like Harry Potter had where it's good you're gonna eat forever and that's what people know you as, like career-wise. I mean in Harry's situation, um he he was that role since he was like, let's say like what 10? Yeah. So it's kind of hard to like maneuver off that shit. Like they it's not like a show. You know what I mean? You got like eight seasons with the show and you can do something else. Like these are movies, bro. Like these like when people are coming to see that shit, it's like these Harry Potter movies like almost damn near three hours. Yeah. They're coming in sitting there, like it's not like Batman and he covers his face and shit like that from time to time. Like change characters. We're watching you, Harry, bro. Like I probably yeah, I feel like I don't know, bro. I feel like career-wise, like Nah, I don't know, bro. I'm I mean, but the thing about-I think I feel like I would get depressed if I'm if I'm an actor, like and I want to do the life, bro. You're set for life, but like if you really love the craft, if you really love the craft, you want to be able to like think about it. He he loved the craft enough to really make what nine or eight films of Harry Potter, bro, that were like three hours long each film, bro. I mean, that doesn't mean I mean, yeah, he loved the craft because they didn't make nine films because they loved the craft, they made nine films because Dim Jones was moneymakers. You feel me? True. Maybe he had a contractual obligation, but yeah, I know what you're saying, he didn't say no, but But how do you know these Harry Potters are supposed to hit off off the first at least two? Just based off the books. Okay, I mean there's a lot of great books that don't really pan out in movies very well. You're right. You're not wrong about that. You know what I'm saying? Is that the great is that is Harry Potter the greatest movie series of all time? I think we had this conversation, didn't we? Nah, I don't think we ever did, bro. I think we never did it. I mean, it might have been off air, I'm saying, like, yeah, we probably did. Like, but off-air we definitely had off air. I would put it up there as one of the greatest movies of all time. I mean, outside of like The Godfather. You think more I think more people probably know Harry Potter than The Godfather. You're bugging. I'm not bugging. I think more people watched Harry Potter than they watched The Godfather. Harry Potter's universal. That's that's a universal series movie. Yeah, I clipped this one up, bro. You are clipping this one up, bro. More people know Harry, Hermione, and and Ron before before uh you know Tony. Before they know uh Michael, Michael Coleon. I don't know about that, brother. You don't you don't think so? No. There's a reason. Why not? I feel like a bigger age demographic, bigger age demographic can't watch Harry Potter, which has watched Harry Potter as opposed to The Godfather. I mean A lot of people haven't watched The Godfather, bro. A lot of people haven't watched The Godfather? I don't know about that one, brother. So why is it still listed as probably the number two greatest movie of all time? Because it was great, it's a great movie, for sure. A lot of people have seen that shit. But it also could just be the cinematographies good the way they shot for the TV. What the fuck? Yeah, yeah, but they made eight of them motherfuckers. Yeah, something, right? For sure, for sure. But I'm just saying though, like, I I I truly, like, in my heart of hearts, in my heart of hearts, I believe that more people like Harry Potter than they do the other. Damn. I can stand on that hill. So you think it's bigger than Fast and Fierce? Harry Potter? I'm just asking. Yeah. If we were to rank them, I'm going. Let's just keep throwing some out before you start ranking, bro. Alright. Who else you get? I mean, you got the Hunger Games. Yeah, Hunger Games not touching everybody. Hunger Games not touching everybody. Not yet. Not yet. Lord of the Rings? That might be up there. Star Wars. I see. Now we're talking. Now we talk. Star Trek? It's better than Star Trek. Star Wars, I don't know about Star Wars. Star Wars might have Harry.

SPEAKER_10

Ah shit.

SPEAKER_06

Rocky? Your name is some good names. I think I think Harry Potter's bigger than Rocky. I think Harry Potter's not a good idea. I really can give my opinion, yeah. I'm just throwing them out there. I'm just throwing some some Titans out there for you. Just to regulate wrap your fucking head around it. There's a couple like Star Wars bigger than Harry Potter. Transformers? Okay. Harry Potter's bigger than Transformers. Well, they got their whole. Well, they're the comics they're the comics, too, don't they? There's no Transformers. Yeah, you're right. There's a Transformers universe, bro. Can you throw the Batman franchise? You can, for sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. See, now there's some heavy hitters. Those are some heavy hitters. You know what I'm saying? Like. But they all have their colts. What who has a bigger cult, Miles? Who has a bigger cult? See, are we taking are we taking like Batman as an individual or the whole universe? I'm talking, no, no, I'm trying, I mean, of course the universe goes behind it, but I'm saying like I'm specifically talking about like the Joker, okay, okay, okay. Uh with the Bane and the last one. So just like the Batman series, okay? Yeah, for sure. The Batman franchise. Alright, so give me give me a couple of them. Like, what do you want me to rank? Okay. I mean, uh you remember all the ones that I said? Yeah, you said like Star Wars, you said um, you said Batman, you said Star Trek, you said Transformers, you said Fast and Furious, you said Godfather, Godfather, Rocky, Rocky, and the fucking shit, Hunger Games. Hunger Games. I don't think Hunger Games is the lower tier that. Bro, you're uh understanding, but when the Hunger Games came out, bro. It was it was massive. Don't be it was massive. I was reading the books. I'm I I remember when it came out. I'm What are you talking about, bro? Like I think Harry Potter's a bigger brand. That whole wigger You're not like I'm not disagreeing with that. I think Harry Potter's Harry Potter's still regarding Leviosa is like one of the greatest quotes. Well, you know, you're I I'm just throwing, you're saying it's on the lower tier, but I mean, I don't know. I think it is. I think it is on lower tier. Like, out of the ones that you named, it's it's going on. I think you named about 10 of them. I think it's that's probably like eight or nine. I'll give you my ranking after you go. Alright, so based off the ones you you've given me, um, I'm going Star Wars one. I'm going I'm going So this nigga double down and backtrack again. No, no, you can't get it. I said I said um real time. That shit crazy I'd backtrack, but um, I said Star Wars one, I think Harry Potter's two, I got Batman three, I got you said you said Star Trek Transformers Fast and Furious. Um I'll put the Godfather at four. Five I'll go I go Star Trek and Fast and Furious, and then you said and then you have the Hunger Games. Oh yeah, forgot damn. You got Star Wars Godfather. Harry Potter. Transformers. Star Trek. And then Hunger Games. Okay. That's that's cool. That's cold. Yes, that's cold, but that shit is cold. Hunger said, Hunger's at the bottom of the bed uh that collective for sure. Uh it's it could not anyone out at any given Sunday. 100%. I feel you. I feel you. You're downplaying it. I'm not downplaying it. I just I just I just don't think I just think the Hunger Games is in is in that same is that is it in that same echelon. You're downplaying it, bro. Catting this evergreen? Bro, the whole the whole the whole shit, bro. Like everybody was itching for the next one. You're right. No, bro. What are we talking about? I'm not trying to downplay it. And then let's let's let's let's stop capping too. Like, we're acting like, oh yo, this could be how the world could be. Everybody's inside, and this come on, man. Yeah, we didn't have those conversations. We did have those conversations. Let's stop. It was a big moment in time for sure. Let's stop. But it ain't bigger than Harry Potter. Ain't bigger than Star Wars. But you just you you no no no no. Don't don't be hooting on Star Wars, bro. Nah, you threw a Star Wars. That was a good one. That's the only one I think could be that's the only one I think competes with with Harry. Godfather, brother. Nah, Godfather's a solid four.

unknown

No.

SPEAKER_06

Solid four. Yeah, you crashed out. But um continuing to some other news. The Knicks, the New York Knickerbockers finally won their first uh NBA finals in 53 years, I think it was. Um Jalen Brunson had a closeout game, um, had 40, had 45 points. Um they wound up winning the series uh four to one. Um and I know you saw, I know that I know that you saw like the the the stories, you saw the videos going out of uh of New York City um going mayhem, um going crazy. Do you think this is the the biggest one of the biggest sports moments in in sports history? I I definitely think it it is because you mean just a simple fact it's in New York. You know what I mean? And like you got all the celebrities, all the stars, the who's who's all go to New York. Yeah, for sure. You know what I mean? To where it's like now business is gonna be booming. New York is gonna feel like the 80s again. Yeah, New York, New York's back to being the center of the country. Yep. In terms of just like now everybody wants to go there. Yeah, that's the hot spot. It's the hot spot. Everybody wants to beat it. You got you got the NBA champs. Yeah. All New York. You're gonna have festivities, you're gonna have more celebrities in there. Everybody's gonna be wanting itching in New York to go to New York now. Everything's gonna have to be feel on land now. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like it's buzzing. Like I said, it's going back to the time of like the late 80s, early 90s, I feel like. Yeah, and when you say that when it comes to New York, not to like push out of New York, but like when it comes to just like the East Coast in general, does it feel like this that's where it's buzzing right now? Everybody comes to the East Coast. As opposed to the West Coast? Because you know, at one point, like bro, that's a fact. The West Coast was like, all right, I need to go. Everybody thought everybody wants to go to LA. Everybody wanted to go to be in New York Coast. I was going in there. Yeah, not everybody would come to the hub out here. Yeah, I'm telling you. Things are shifting. Yeah. I mean shifting. Yeah, because before it was like, all right, Atlanta's the hot spot for a while, whatever it may be. Like, people still go there. I told you, Kendrick had that little moment, thought West Coast was the best coast. Now the East Coast is now. Everybody wanna come east. Where would you where would you rank um, you don't give me like a specific number? Like Jalen Brunson and his dad, Rick Brunson, is it one of the top father duos in sports history? I mean, they want a chip now. Like, like, damn, that's what we're gonna say right out the gate. I'm just asking. I'm just won one. God damn. How many you gotta win to be in that conversation? I mean, is it an iconic moment? For sure. Is it a historical moment? For sure. But to say they're the best to do it, like Nah, not the best, not the best. I'm just saying, like, are they can they be putting that conversation now? We got to the mountaintop. They did. Coach and son. Absolutely. You know what I'm saying? I mean, obviously, congratulations to them, but I'm saying, like, they gotta do more. Gotta do a little bit more to say, oh, you're you're in that conversation of best tandem. Yeah, I mean, because when we were talking about it before, like we were talking about obviously like Tiger and his pops, like Venus, Venus and Serena and their pops. You see how you're talking about these. And then, but we put LeVar, we put LeVar up there and we had that conversation too. Basically, I said he's a good dad for doing what he's doing. Okay. I'm saying, you're talking, you just said Tiger. You're saying we're throwing Titans, bro. Yeah, they are Titans. Stop giving out participation trophies, my nigga. See, that's not just the part. They got a chip under they belt. Now that's just a participation trophy. Okay, you know what I mean? Multiple chips, Tiger has a lot of people. Tiger does have a lot. Serena have, like, true. I mean, when it comes to when it comes to Jalen Brunson, like, where do you think he's gonna rank in like New York greats? You know, like obviously you have Eli Manning who knocked off Tom Brady twice. You got Derek Jeter who um brought multiple chips to to um to the Yankees. Now you got now you got Jalen Brunson leading, they called him the captain too, leading New York to their first chip in 53 years. Like, what do you think is a bigger moment? What do you think is a bigger moment? Like I would say, I would say I'll use I was like Derek Jeter coming up and winning the chip with the Yankees or or Jalen Brunson. Jalen Brunson winning the first chip in 53 years for New York Knicks. Right, JB, because you gotta think about it. It's been 53 years since you know the Knicks won, you know, a world championship. And now, you know, let's keep it being uh New York is one of the hubs of basketball. Oh, it is. You know what I mean? It's like a Mecca there. Yeah. So like, you know, once you touch New York City, they'll talk all day about basketball. The basketball or baseball, one or the other. Real shit. Like, you hear about the Giants or the Jets, but the Knicks or the fucking Yankees is probably what you're hearing about. Yeah, you're right. So the point is the fact that he was able to drop a 40 clip and do it at a dominant fashion. A real dominant fashion. I mean, people underrated him. Let's keep it a beam. Yeah, they called him too small. They said he wasn't good enough. Um, I've I've seen a bunch of clips of like all the sports analysts like, oh, the New York Knicks are signing. They went all in on Jalen Brunson. Like uh Stephen A. Smith said he couldn't get it done. There was another like analyst saying um teams with small guards don't win championships and started ringing off like Allen Iverson, all Chris Paul, all of them said it wasn't possible. And then every game they came back because the Spurs were up like 14 plus every game and the Niggs battled back. I mean, what's that what's that say for Wimby? Because I thought this was gonna be a career-defined moment for Wimby and like did he ain't really he had moments, he had moments where he showed the flashes. He could be like take over, be dominant, and then there was moments where it was just like, what are you doing? Yeah, man. I mean, you gotta look at it like this. You had a team that's honestly been there before, I believe, right? Yeah, they won a national championship together for the most part. And then last year, I mean, no, they've been to conference finals and stuff like that. Yeah. To where it's like they've they've been battle tested, to where it's like you have you're a veteran team. Yeah. So like I feel as though the Knicks knew that they fell short last year, right? To who? Um, I forgot who they lost to in uh the playoffs last year. The Celtics, right? Yeah, they because that was a big matchup, yeah, before they get to the final. You know what I'm saying? To where it's like, you know, this one had this one had to be it. This one had to be it, bro. To where it's like they knew they had the chemistry of just that one hiccup, that one hump or whatever, um, you know, defined this moment. Yeah, and I'm and I'm as I'm thinking about that, and I'm just seeing the reaction of the reaction of um. And my bad didn't finish with the Wemby situation. It's just like uh you can't really be too bad about Wemby. He's you know he's still a young player, bro. Yeah, they're it's a big moment. We were going in a bit, a very, very tough terrain going in New York, bro. Oh, yeah, we were talking about this in the shop. Now that you said it's very tough terrain, they were saying like just the atmosphere of the Spurs coming into New York before they even stepped on the court, like they were they were throwing eggs at these guys. They'd like when it was time for the bus to like leave the arena or leave the hotel room, it took hours because they just had mobs of fans standing around the bus, like pushing it, hitting it, whatever it may be. So, like their mental state before they even stepped on the court was probably all like discombobulated, all the distractions outside, even if you're walking down the street, people yelling and screaming at you. They showed a video of Wimby, I think he was doing a workout on one of the rooftops, and like the fans are just sitting there heckling them the whole time. Um and you add that on top of the going to have to play in Madison Square. Your whole team's for the most part is like I think their starters are 20, 23 and under, 24 and under for the most part, except for like De'Aaron Fox, I believe. Um, so I mean they'll be back. I think they'll be back. I think they're gonna be around for a long time, but you're right, that veteran, that veteran status that that that New York had, it was just too much for him. Do you think do you think the New York fans are um crazier than the Philadelphia Eagles fans when they won that first bowl? Because people people were saying like they were giving Philly a hard time for tearing up the city, lighting that joint ablaze when the birds won that first chip. And now New York, they they going crazy out there too. I mean, I I mean I mean, I ain't gonna lie, Philly fans be out of pocket, bro. Yeah, yeah like like I was watching the New York fans going crazy. It was a draw. But like these Philly fans be out of pocket, bro. Like, you see the one dude, like they was he had a uh a Robin jersey on and they tried to fight him, but the bull, he started raging out of them. But the thing is, Philly fans, they not gonna stop. They're not gonna stop, they're gonna get the lick. Like, yeah, like But the Spurs fans, they was ripping, they were I mean the Knicks fans, they was ripping Spurs people's jerseys and stuff. The bulls walking to the ripping it off, like taking it through, going crazy. It was getting physical too. No, they were. They was getting physical, they was teeing off on people. Nah, they were well they ripped one dude's off jersey and burned that joint in front of them. I'm like, damn. Nah, they were. That joint mean that much to him. I yo, there was a there was a funny They do. Yeah, it's been 53 years, bro. So I get it. There was one boy, he's like hates it or something, bro. He he put like he drew like a chalk circle, and then he put like the jersey, the Timbs, and then the chopped cheese and started praying to that joint. I was like, yo, this is this he's like, I pray, yo, he said, I pray on my Tim's, my Knicks jersey, and my chopped cheese that we win the motherfucking NBA championship. Motherfuckers really crying. Nah, yeah, my boy at uh at my job, he he's a he's a he's a New York nigga to the core. And uh he was like, Yeah, man, like if we win, I might have to call out, but I don't know. These young boys out there be acting wild, like they don't know how to celebrate, right? He said, We, you know, once you go to Harlem, you don't see any trouble. You know, you know, everybody having cookout, good time, but once you get to like Manhattan and all that, it's it's OP. I can I can only I can only imagine, bro, because they showed the aerial from every borough. Like, how would you feel being a Brooklyn, a Brooklyn Nets player, like a Brooklyn Knicks team? Like, even your borough is jumping up for New York Knicks, like you guys New York. Yeah, they hold way too much weight, huh? Yeah, I'm saying it's New York. Shit. Everybody in New York jumping. Yeah. Everybody in New York right now rocking the blue it, the blue and orange. 100%. They they painted the whole city. They painted the whole city. Yeah, I mean, being a superstar in New York, a sports superstar in New York, that's a different magnitude. Alright. That's a way different magnitude. Like, you think it's the prime city of even like above LA, LA to be like the to be like a sports star. New York. Yeah. Oh, New York or LA. New York. I'm probably I think probably New York, because I feel like the the the culture is is more sports oriented. Yeah. Like you if you're in LA, you gotta win championships after championships. Like a couple, like I'll shack and Kobe did? Like, yeah, you gotta be like, yeah, you gotta win champions, you gotta be in chips, bro. Yeah, I would agree. Like you basically gotta be like a person to where it's like undeniably like the god of basketball. Do you think the Knicks repeat? No. We've had a different champion every year since 2019. Yeah. There's been no repeat champion. I don't see him being a repeat. Yeah, you think it's too up for grabs? Yeah, I mean, I think he I think Jalen JB put a lot of wear and tear on his body on this run. He did. He did 100%. Like, you know what I mean? Like, that's a lot. He had a I mean he got his, bro. He did. Yeah, he did he did what he had. I mean, you can rest now, huh? Yeah, you can rest now. That's what I'm saying. I don't know. But do you think the Knicks are gonna do you think like the Knicks fans are satisfied with just getting the one and you think they're gonna they need another one? That motherfuckers are gritty, bro. Yeah, I think they're gonna go back to talking crazy next next year, huh? Kind of how birds fans are? Y'all can't, bro. Y'all gotta just chill. Yeah, he brought you the first one at 50, 50 plus. You gotta chill. You you can't ask for more. Yeah. Nobody really expected y'all to win a chip this year, neither. At all. Like they like even with the route, like the roster's not bad at all, but like on paper, it's not like champion, that's I mean uh NBA champion. Y'all are equivalent to like Milwaukee. Nah. You think Milwaukee, that's like outside of Giannis, like you really could bahoot, but I'm saying, like, it was no like stars. Yeah, the only star they have was the boy Jalen Brunson. And like cat, but other than that, it's like they had a lot of role players. You know what I mean? Yeah, they just had a solid team. Absolutely. But it was a great watch. That series was a great watch. I think this this playoffs, especially like the conference finals, going into the finals, yo, the players are actually playing hard. The young boys are really playing. Like the league, you can see you can see the league, you can see the new stars like how are solidified now. Like, who's the guys for this next wave? Absolutely. You feel me? Like how like when we saw like Braun Steph and all them kind of like coming to their own. We are now we now it's set that like yo, the stars are like Lucas, you got the SGAs, you got the Jalen Brunches, you got the Ant Edwards, you got you got a bunch of different people. Um see, he's one that still hasn't got there. He was like, but he's I think he's being surpassed. Like he's he's he's in a smaller market too, so he don't get the he don't get he don't get as much talked about as he should. Yeah. But he's still he's still one of them guys, but he gotta he gotta get to the promised land too, bro. Him, you feel me? Him and Luca. Yeah. They gotta get a chip, bro. Absolutely. But and then the last the last thing before we shoot into the next topic, they were having a debate. They were having a debate online um who who was the worst GM. Um the Sixers GM for not being able to, the one that just got fired recently, or the Dallas Mavs GM, because they had Luca and Jalen on the same team and couldn't win with them. The Mavs. You think the Mavs? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, yeah, you had Luca and Jalen and you couldn't do nothing with that. The guy over in Philly wasn't just doing shit. You said what? The GM in Philly, he just wasn't doing shit. Yeah, all that whole process never, I mean, he was before he was after the process, but like still he they had they had put Philly had plenty of opportunities to to win a chip and they and they haven't. I mean, if you if you're Joel M, Joel and Bede, it's like, yo, the Knicks got one, Toronto got one, Boston got one. You're the only team in the division that don't got a chip. Yeah. You're the only one in the division that don't got a chip. Sixers fans. Like, what you the only one in the division that don't got a chip? Yeah. Seeps, beeps, all of y'all. Yeah, they're sick. I know they're sick. Like, yeah. There's some questions now. That's what I realized. They they are sick as hell. Damn. I just thought about that. They're literally the only one in the division. Yeah, NYC really got a chip before y'all. Before the Sixers, bro. Hey man. You Sixers fans really need to look in the mirror and say you guys are the worst in the division. You're the worst in the division. This last decade, y'all are the worst in division. No, shit. Probably the last two decades. True. You ain't wrong about that. Like, Philly's down. Like now that I'm seeing it, now I'm really like looking at it. They had their moment with the birds and that was it. Shit, and football shit. Fuck around, they might lose to the Giants. What do you what do we do? The Pats. Nah, we didn't. But I'm saying, like, but I'm saying, like, you see what uh the Giants are loading up with? Yeah, yeah, the Giants are loading up, bro. They they're trying to get that boy uh Jackson Dirk comfortable. Yeah, the Giants are loading. There's a lot of teams loading up. Especially on the defensive side. I mean, they're gonna get offensive weapons, like on like the wide receiver end. They're gonna be. I'm not talking about Odell. Yeah, I know. I'm saying they're gonna be Scotty Boo's gonna be back too. Like they're gonna have the NFC East is gonna be a Washington gonna be fully healthy this year, too. People be thinking the Eagles are gonna go back to the ball. I'm like, bro, it's gonna be hard, bro. It's gonna be hard for them to get back in terms of yeah, on paper, talent-wise, yeah. All right, you gotta rush it. But the the Eagles lost a lot of players though, too. Yeah, like free agency. Saquon might fuck around and get better. You think so? I think Saquon, I think he's comfortable. You think he's gonna stay Eagles forever? It's his home. He's from the area. My boy won another chip. They're still a top contender, I think, right now, but you think they're the top contender right now? In the NFC, yeah. I don't know who's, I mean, I don't know who I think Seattle, I think Seattle just had a Seattle was like perfect timing. That was perfect timing. I think any other year they're not they're not winning a chip, bro. LA. See, they're loading up. I forgot about them. Never mind. Scratch that. I forgot. They just got Miles Garrett, right? Just trying to tell him, bro. Yeah. And they say Aaron Donald might come back. Birds, it might be slow bucks for you. You might have missed your window. I mean, they got it, they got they got chips. They got, I'm saying. So, but in terms of like getting another one, might be a little minute, bro. What you think? What do you think about Patty and them and KC? He just upped his contract. They extended him. Yeah, I mean, Pat's Pat gonna be new Pat, but then y'all need y'all need to load up. We're gonna be alright, bro. I give him, like, he's coming back, like it's gonna be a rough year for us. It's gonna be a rough year to start, but I think we're still gonna get to the offs. You can't keep saying it's gonna be a rough year. I think it's going to the offs, though. I think we're going to the offs. Said that last year. We were we were an ACL tear away from from winning the game, bro. We was driving down towards the knee, bro. What can you get? It's the guys, the football guys just that's my point. The football guys just said it wasn't all in Patty's hands, man. But also, that's not even my biggest concern, bro. Travis, is your head even gonna be in the game and shit? Because he's worried about getting married, about to get married at MSG. He worried about the life after football. It's like, bruh, if you're not locked in, if you're not locked in, bro, you might as well just sit out. And he just needs to make that call. He does? He needs to trade him. Trade him, get another like better tight end that's gonna do the job because they can do the same thing. I don't know, but I don't think Trav has has too many seasons left in him. He doesn't, bro. I think he just because he looked bad last year. Like he looked bad. He looked really bad, dropping a lot of passes. He had me pissed off the whole season. Absolutely. I just I just think once that whole the whole Taylor Swift shit just got him off his, got him off his uh the North Star, got him off his focus, and it messed up a lot for us this season. But I mean our receiving core is solid. I think our receiving core is solid. I think our offense is still gonna be good. Justin um Justin Fields is gonna be running the show for the first like five weeks. Oh, yeah, because he's still, isn't he? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I think we're gonna, I think if Justin Fields can get us to like four and two, it'll be it'll be I'll be solid with that before Patty comes back. I think he he definitely has the capability to do that too. Yeah, someone was trying to tell me that he didn't have the capabilities, and I'm just like, bro, y'all never y'all haven't watched Justin Fields play. Like he hasn't he hasn't had like a solid offensive line, nothing like that. But when he when he did, he performed. He performed. Like he has that that I mean he just he was just in an unfortunate situation of getting drafted to the Jets. Yeah. Like that's alright on the Bears too when they didn't have nobody. That's what I'm saying. That's already gonna hinder you, like, okay, you're not gonna have a a good two seasons. Like you can, you know, have like spikes here and there, but you know, overall that season's probably not gonna be very promising. Just do the coaching and back off it, back off his play. Yeah, yeah. He's been in both the places he's been at have been unfortunate situations where he's just in a in a in a bad system. But that's here north there. I mean, I I'm excited for the season, bro. I'm excited for it. I think I think like you said, LA, you're right. When you brought up LA, it's like they they're probably gonna be the team in the in the seed. The AFC though, on the AFC, that's the wild, wild west. Fuck yeah. That's the wild wild, like that's that's you talk about any given Sunday? Yeah, they might have. That's any given Sunday, bro. Even even um when even I think the Browns are gonna be, I think the Browns, uh, based on their division, they're gonna be they're gonna be an okay team. Like I think it depends on who the quarterback's gonna be. Do you think For the Browns? Yeah, do you think Shador's gonna start? Or do you think Deshaun's gonna get the start? Because they're going back and forth. Uh probably DeJaun. You think so? Just because they paid him all that money? Yeah. I think you're right. I mean, like, I want to see Shador play though. Like, but Deshaun hasn't done nothing in like three or four years. If he doesn't perform, they could probably put Shador right in. Do you think do you think his leash is short? Deshaun or Shador? Uh Deshaun. Like if he gets to not. Yeah, he has to do the job. Yeah. He has to prove himself again. And then and then and then speaking of contenders, the not that the Browns are gonna be contenders, but what what are we gonna say about what are we gonna say about Lamar and and and and and the bull up in Buffalo, um, Josh Allen. Like Drake May went to the went to a bull before y'all. Yeah, it's kind of crazy. That's crazy. I I would say with in terms of Lamar and and um what's his name? Josh Allen? Yeah. I would say this. Uh in terms of for Lamar, it's like if you can't do it one more year, it might be time for you to get tr get up out of it, bro. Different system? Yeah. Do you think Baltimore get rid of Lamar though? I don't see them. They probably won't, but I mean like signing somewhere you mean You don't think so? That's hard. He's been trying for how many years now? Like when's the last time he's been to a conference championship? Yeah. You aren't wrong, bro. What can the Bengals do this year? I mean if if fucking Burrow's healthy. If Burrow's healthy the whole season, they could have a nice little home field advantage run. Yeah. Not saying they're the top seed, but you know, at least a home field advantage run. But it's just, I don't know. Joe needs to stay healthy. Yeah, he had like the best one season you could have as a quarterback, and after that's just been. And that might be a calling too. It might just it's it was just slow it's just slow bucks for him. Yeah. After that, he probably is not the same. Yeah, but I'm I'm I'm hyped for this season, man. I think I think this season will be super active. Um obviously both our teams are in the AFC, but I think the league as a whole, like there's a lot of great young stars. The same thing we're talking about, the NBA. I think sports, I don't know, I feel like these young cats are just playing harder as opposed to what it's been like the last like few years as watching sports as a whole, um, that they're like really getting after it. Yeah, I think across the board, yeah, I agree with you. I think mainly about basketball, right? Yeah. Yeah, I I definitely feel they're they're bringing the integrity of the game back. Obviously, these rules and these different types of styles of play in this modern day game is still in effect, but I feel like they're really trying to get a bucket. Yeah. Like at the end of the day, like, yeah, it still has that AAU ball, but it's more of that now, like that city AAU ball. You know what I mean? Yeah, it's different. Everybody in the gym, like they really get into it, you know what I mean? Like, which I like. Yeah. Like I feel like there's, you know, the refs are starting to let them play too through calls. So I mean, I think basketball's going in the right direction. Yeah, because like even because the finals, like, there's a lot of stuff that normally, like in the regular season or like early in the playoffs, like little touch founds that we call, but like the finals, they was really letting them, they were letting them bang, bro. They was in there like contact and all that stuff. They weren't calling shit. They were letting them. That makes sense though, bro. I like that though. It really makes sense though, because they don't want anybody really get hurt throughout the season like that. True. True. You're not wrong about that. We're gonna make call a little bit more. Because the game was the game, the game was real physical. Um, you know what I wish? I wish, and obviously this is probably what makes MSG, MSG, like like that feel how you see you're talking about how it's like AU, but like when you're watching them playing like Madison Garden, how the fans are really on top of the players, like yelling the ears, clapping, like you playing like a small high school gym. Like, right. I wish like all the arenas would take that type of energy. Like, obviously, because that's the Mecca. Like, but I wish all the fans, if you're like on course side, I feel like you should want to heckle the players, you should want to, you know, say shit to them. And that's another thing. Because remember, it was a big deal for a while. You see like Russell Westbrook going back with fans, he was getting mad because they were saying shit. Like, none of those players really care. They just played in the moment, right? It was in the moment. They were just like, it is what it is. Like, I'm this comes with trying to win a championship. Absolutely. And I and I like you say when the integrative game, I think that's part of the integrity of the game. Like, like what you always say, the gig is the gig. You sign up for that. You're an NBA player. You should know fans are gonna say wild shit to you, no matter what. Right. But that's just that's just me. But I like like I said, I'm excited for the future. The NBA NFL, because of the sports that we watch on the regular, um, it's in a good place. Um Alright, some some more Monday rundown news. Uh, remember that case with the uh Carmelo Anthony, the kid that um stabbed one of the twin brothers in the in the in the at the track meet. Um, we talked about that a while ago. We talked about that a while ago. So he recently had his trial. Um the black boy got arrested, right? Yeah, the black boy got arrested was a whole thing, like they were saying, well, it's self-defense, um, that he was getting bullied. Um and we were discussing like, would you bring like a knife for defend yourself if you're getting punched on every single day? Like how what mental state that kid would be in? So this past week, um, it says Kamala Anthony, 19 now, was found guilty of murder um for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalfe at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, um, in April 2025. Um, it says the jury deliberated for about two hours and 20 minutes before convicting him. He was then sentenced to 35 years in prison and will be eligible for parole after serving half of that time. Um and then the internet was divided based on my comments. A lot of people said that that's still still on the side like self-defense if his kids getting punched on whatever, he should have been able to do whatever it took to get out of the situation. Um, that these kids were bullies as well, too. And the other side was that that they were saying like he was in a place they shouldn't have even been, and he was causing records from his end, and those kids were telling him to leave. Um, and the ones that are on that side said that that the kid should get the death penalty based on what he's doing for killing the kid. And other and other people like we're saying that he should been let uh let off with lesser charge or not even had to go to jail because of self-defense. I mean, in this scenario, I know we touched on it um just based on the self-defense aspect, what we think was gonna happen. Now that we have the verdict of 35 years, um, do you think that's too harsh? I mean, my question is, well, for one, do you you did you think it was self-defense? Based on, based on what I was, based on what I was um, based on what I read and what we talked about in the in the past, and just like reading about like um some of the stuff that came out um during the trial, um I think in the moment, yeah, self-defense for sure. I don't think I think if you get punched on, it's probably like a natural reaction to like like we said before, like you don't know what it's that fight or flight type of thing. Um and if it was something that's happened frequently, right? Like if that's in fact what was happening frequently, then probably was like self-defense. And I don't I'm not saying he shouldn't have served no time because like I said before, your first reaction shouldn't be to stab somebody, maybe like fight away, but like you kill somebody at the end of the day. Um you should get hit with manslaughter. Yeah, like I don't I don't think uh maybe 35 years is too long of a time, but I think you should have served some time. Like how long? I really don't. That's that's a good question. Um if it's manslaughter? What is it what I don't know if the normal charges were maybe like 15, you get you get some time, and you get like you get an opportunity for parole because you're still I if if he was I don't know if he was 17 or 18 when it happened, but if he was if he was like um a minor still, then yeah. If you're 18 or whatever, then I mean that's you're gonna get charged as an adult. But what do you think? Yeah, no, I mean, at the end of the day, like you said, you hit it right on the head. Like if you kill somebody, you gotta suffer those consequences of unaliving somebody, you know what I mean? Yeah. Um, I feel as though for one, this was on the school grounds too, right? Yep. So I mean, yeah, man, you definitely knew what you're about to get yourself into to where it's like that that possibility of you getting arrested and the charges being pressed because you decided to do an irrational act. Yeah. I mean, you gotta you gotta you gotta you gotta face that. No, 100%. Like 35 years, I mean I'm always gonna say that's too long, but like at least a decade. Yeah, 35, that's a long time. That's a that's a ver you really think about that? And you have to serve, he has to serve half the time. So oh he does? So after 30 uh 30 of what 33 years? Nah, so half of 35 years, whatever, whatever that is with the math is like 17 years or something like that, then he can he then he can get eligible for parole. So yeah, like you said, he's gonna be about 35, 40 before he get out. Yeah, it's crazy. Whole whole life, her whole portion of your life done. But I mean he's gonna be like, uh Yeah, that's crazy. Damn. But I know they're definitely gonna appeal it based on what they're saying. Um because that's that's it's crazy. Um I don't think that I don't think that appeal will go through. I I don't think so. Either one of the biggest things on the trial was that one of his friends, um, who's I guess I guess the um not the defense, but uh the plaintiff's side or the state or whatever, um put like his friend as a witness on the stand. Right. And the kid acted like because they wanted to like I guess vouch for Carmelo's like character, whatever. Kid said, Oh, I didn't even know him. We wasn't even friends like that. And come to find out, like, they had a bunch of like videos and pictures together hanging out all the time, whatever it may be. Like, is he wrong for pretty much going on the stand and saying that? If you if if you like, how would you feel if you on trial and your man's come to that's not my man? I can't really I can't really say nothing. We didn't really hang out, we was with my man's like that. I only hung out with him to party, I only hung out to do like that, like well, I mean, for one, he like Carmelo, like telling. What if his man was there during that whole situation? True, you know what I mean? To where it's like if if if I'm like the guy on the stand, like I I'd probably do the same thing because like if if we're involved in some shit, like I'm trying to be as far as way as possible, right? But if you're all if he's on some shit like, oh, he's there to just answer questions and he wasn't involved, I'd be like, Yeah, I know. Yeah, I think I think that's I think that was that's more of what they were just trying to vouch for him as like a person. Like not like the kid, not the kid was there, but like you know how people bring witnesses in to say like they're trying to say, say, like Carmelo's a good kid, or whatever it is, so you'll bring like one of his friends to vouch like how he acted around and whatever. And the kid was just like, nah, that's not really my man's like that. I really don't Damn, that's that's cold. Yeah, that's real cold. Yeah, and that's kind of like the internet. What's the internet like with the with the chats were saying, chat rooms and stuff like that, we're saying we're just like that's that's crazy how how how it panned out. But I mean, we'll see what happens if he gets the appeal. I know, I know Austin Metcalf's pop said he should get more years, death penalty, all that type of stuff. Yeah, um, but yeah, what do you think about A B and Dean the Great? They're going viral. Yeah, do you think that tandem's a match made in heaven? Yeah, until it until until it's not. Yeah what I mean? Because it's like how I see it is right now, they're having a great time and having a blast until somebody, until a large check comes through, and they're both playing until they're not playing no more. Yeah, that actually happened. There's one of the clips that went viral. I haven't seen it. I think like A B got offered like a couple mil and and and Dean was just like, bro, like, let's not do it. Let's why'd you why you making a decision before us before talking about it? A B's like, I got 10 miles to feed, I got 10 kids. Like, why am I? You know what I'm saying? I'm about them M's. Like, do you think he's wrong for doing that? He's not wrong. He should have mentioned mentioned it to him. Yeah. Um, just simply because like he's involved, like Dean is involved with what A B's doing. With yeah, you know, just streaming and streaming it's streaming itself. Yeah, he got him in the space too. He pretty much produced that character. Absolutely. Bro, he he's he's the A side. A B? You said Dean's the A side or A B? A B's the A side. You think so? Yeah. Like now that everything, now that everything is what it is, like A B A B's, I don't think he started off that way. Yeah, because Dean obviously knew more about the streaming shit. But character-wise, A B's the everybody's coming to see A B. Yeah, character-wise, it's all about A B. Yeah. Do you think do you think uh Dean sees that? It's kind of like, I think it shows in some of the clips. That's all that Dean's a little envious. Yeah, I don't know, that's his demeanor, but you can kind of see just based on because people do really come for A B. They really do like, even though he draws, he be drawing. Yeah, but they don't give a fuck. They're living for that. Yeah, it's the it's the comedy aspect of it. But I mean, is there any instance you think the boy will be going too far? Who? Uh AB? Yeah, there was. Yeah, I think so too. But that's the only thing with live streams. Like, you said the gig is the gig. He's doing whatever it takes to get that dollar. Right. The gig is the gig is the gig. Yeah. Um, I got one more thing, and then uh we will close out this episode. Um, so there's this big uh podcast called The Cutter Room Floor. It's like a fashion um podcast. Um and she only and she only drops on Patreon. She just did a big exclusive deal on Patreon, um, with Patreon to like have the exclusive rights and all that type of stuff. And there's a clip that went viral. I think she had one of the founders on Patreon talking about how everything's shifting in terms of like subscription models. And we've been talking about that for a while on the show. Yeah, I'm gonna play the clip, and then I wanna I wanna just have a quick combo about what you think he thinks of aligns with what we're saying in the direction of where like content creation is going and all that stuff. Um, but I'm gonna play it for the listeners so they know what we're talking about, they have context. Um, but but here's the one of the co-founders of Patreon talking about the subscription model um and the way content is going. Hell yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The internet was this big promise. What are the reasons that you think we arrived at this brain rot slot?

SPEAKER_01

The biggest shift was the advent of short form. And I don't mean like vertical video. What is different about short form is that as a fan, you're not searching for things, you're not clicking on things, you're getting an endless feed of things that are recommended to you. And rather than giving you a feed of people that you chose to follow because you're interested in them, the platform said, you know what, that's nice for us to know, but that doesn't mean we're gonna put that code post in your feed. Instead, we're gonna put things in your feed that we think is gonna drive your attention. And the subscription like represents my intent. When you remove that, you remove the user's agency. You remove my ability to control my information title as a creator, the subscription button concept. It's so important to me. If I can't reach people and they've subscribed to me, I can't build a community and I can't build a business. I think the creators realized it's not my audience. These are TikTok users. And TikTok can do whatever they want.

SPEAKER_00

But you sort of in 2014. What problem did you see?

SPEAKER_01

There's so many platforms that are designed for consumers, but nobody was thinking about that from the lens of a creator. As a creator, I was uploading these platforms. I was like, they're not building what I want. They're thinking about me as a supply. I'm supplying them with free content, and they're using my free content to generate hundreds of billions of dollars of value for themselves. And believe it or not, in 2013, the word creator didn't exist, the word creator economy didn't exist.

SPEAKER_06

So he was talking about that because remember how we were talking about like um how like titles having the new ticket direct to consumer app and all that type of stuff? Like, so based on what he was saying in the consumer aspect of like we're pretty much generating them money without them having to do anything at all, like these platforms, right? Do you think more people are gonna either try to take like the 85 South route where they have their own app and they're going all their consumers are going directly to their app as opposed to going like an Instagram or going through like a Patreon partnership, whatever it is? Like, where do you think that direction is gonna go on in the end all be all, I guess? Honestly, um I think it's it's it's it's good. It's good. What what what do you mean by like the end all be all though? Like, do you think you as he was saying, like um like content creators and and things are are realizing their agency when it comes to like what they're actually doing for the platforms? Like, yeah, say I'm a TikTok and I get brand deals from getting millions of views, but at the end of the day, if I'm getting millions of views or in a couple M's of dollars, like TikTok's getting billions because of that viewership that's on that platform because they're getting bigger ad deals or whatever. Do you think like say these mega influencers, micro influencers, even like nano influencers, they realize, oh, to make money, all I need is that following and subscription base. So let me start my own website all outside of like Instagram, TikTok, and and drive that traffic all the way to to my site or my app where people can literally just download it if you're really uh uh if you're really like a top fan or whatever it may be, and you can subscribe to my kind without having to go on these platforms because now the platforms aren't even feeding you um the stuff you want to, the stuff you necessarily want to see. It's just what they think you want to see. Like you're not like you can get stuff that pops up in your feed of people that you don't even follow. Um, but because you like something or say something, it pops up in your algorithm now, and you don't even see the people that you actually want to follow's content on the regular. So do you think that shift's kind of like gonna be the I guess the end point for where this is going where creators maybe gonna get off of these platforms, or you think it's gonna be more so of like you're gonna see bigger partnerships with like a Patreon that's direct to consumer or or stuff like that? I definitely think it's gonna be more of a shift shift of you know, artists are gonna have to, you know, create their own app and and do it their way because they can. There's so many different investors, people who want to buy into the music, the project, and sound, to where if like they don't want to go through the label directly, there's definitely options to do so. Right. Now I agree with that. I agree with that. I think it's gonna be it's gonna be one of those slow burn things as people like start to figure it out. Um, because you always say, like, yeah, we know this stuff, but like as I talk to more and more people, whether it be uh musical artists, whether it be like visual artists, whether it be people that um are in like authors or journalists that want to have subscriptions on Substack and uh get subscriptions that way to get paid for like their writing. A lot of people don't even understand the magnitude of that. Like they don't. And I I I maybe we're so deep in it, we because we we know we just like you obviously say all the time, like those people really don't know that stuff. Like you you always tell me, like we know it because we talk about it, we look at it every day, but like the vast majority they don't understand that it's still like a very new thing. So brand new thing to them, yeah. So that shift, that shift I think is is slowly happening before eyes. I think it's gonna be some years before like it gets to that point where everybody's having their own thing, like it is back in the day. But I think I think we're close. I think like it's gonna start off with that partnership where like how part um Patreon has it, um where it's where they could have their direct consumer con uh uh uh platform no different than like how like Bandcamp was um and things of that nature. But I think every industry is about to go to that subscription base. Yeah. Um and live shows are gonna be a premium. Getting music in person is gonna be a premium, all that stuff. Like if you want to see it, you really don't have to pay for it. But that's here nor there. Um that's all I got for this episode. Um, you got anything else for me? Nah, I think we covered all bases, man. Yeah, it is it's it's it's it's summertime, man. Like it's hot outside. Make sure you get outside, enjoy the weather. Um, shout out to Jersey, South Jersey, shout out Philly. I mean, I'm not gonna shout out New York, but shout out to the Knicks. Um, but yeah, shout out to our loyal listeners. Roll the 300. Um, this is episode 288. It's your boy Millie. I got Rocket in here with me. Peace.

SPEAKER_10

Oh my god, is that the faces of the future?
